In ECI 546, New Literacies and Media, Dr. Spires challenged us to re-think our definition of literacy and how we could help our students become literate citizens.
Dr. Spires pushed us to create a Project-Based Inquiry (PBI) project that would advance us from our present "comfort level" regarding technology instruction. Our goal was to pose a compelling question related to teaching and learning in our classes and then answer the question by implementing an innovative lesson using technology. Amber Harper and I worked together to integrate two different tech tools, Diigo and Scrible, into our students' online research projects. See below for our documentary of the process with footage from our upper elementary and middle school classrooms as well as our written report at the conclusion of the project.

Dr. Spires also challenged our cohort to explore new technology through our "Cool Tools" assignment. Nicole Polozzi (Coley) and I worked together to learn how we could use the tool Educreations. On the left, you can see our example of one way a teacher could use Educreations in the classroom by having students use technology to write inferences about a photograph. This lesson is likely to be very engaging to students because it is thought-provoking, open-ended, promotes collaboration, and uses technology for learning.
