In ECI 540, Reading in the Elementary School, Dr. Harrington challenged us to continually seek out, read, and share quality texts for children and young adults throughout the semester.
One of our final assignments was to use the website Good Reads to curate a list of at least 10 "WOW" books to share with our classmates. Ten books that impressed me can be viewed below. I have since bought many of these books for my classroom and have used most of them in lessons. Click here to read my critical reviews of each book!
Another part of our class involved engaging in Action Book Clubs, where we formed groups based on choice of text. We read outside of class and spent time each week discussing our ideas related to the book. We also implemented ideas in our own classrooms throughout the semester. My group read The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller, an inspiring book which continues to influence my classroom practices today. See below for our final presentation with key ideas from the book and evidence of our implementation.
At the end of the semester, Dr. Harrington challenged us to synthesize our learning into a "Top 10" paper. See below for my completed assignment.
