In ECI 645, Practicum in Reading/Literacy, Dr. Davis supported us in applying our learning through the Wolfpack Readers tutoring program.
All of the educators in our cohort were grouped in pairs or trios and matched with a fourth or fifth grade student who had been identified as needing more support with literacy. We met with this student and did a full set of reading and writing assessments, collaborated with our partners to write a diagnostic assessment report, and worked with our student bi-weekly throughout the semester, with each group member taking one session a week. We also developed an inquiry plan based on the student's interests and paired that with our focused plan for instruction based on the student's strengths and needs with reading and writing.

We stayed in touch with our co-tutors throughout the semester and shared our lessons, challenges, successes, and reflections with each other. The practicum culminated with final assessments and a final report of learner progress and a Wolfpack Readers celebration, where the students presented their inquiry projects and celebrated their learning! See below for our student's final inquiry project about Amazing Jaguars (formatting is not perfect due to the transition from Google Slides). |
